Full Description
Boracay's Northeast Coast
Most visitors only know Boracay's west coast, but the northeast of the island feels completely different. Here the land rises into wooded hills, including Mount Luho, the highest point on the island, and the shoreline breaks into rocky headlands and small coves facing the open sea. Large parts are still green, with coconut palms, tropical shrubs and wide views over the water.
This makes the area ideal for a Boracay ATV tour: the trails are varied, mostly shaded and well away from the traffic of the main road. Is a quad ride in Boracay worth it when the island is so small? For many guests it is the best way to see the island's interior and quieter shores in a short time, with a bit of adventure added to a beach holiday.
Riding the Electric ATVs
The quads on this tour are electric, which means a smooth, quiet ride with no engine noise or exhaust fumes, a good fit for an island that has worked hard to protect its environment. Before setting off, the guide gives a short briefing on the controls, safe speeds and how to ride in a line, and everyone tries the quad on an easy practice stretch.
The trails include gentle climbs, dirt tracks and some bumpy or muddy sections after rain, but no previous experience is needed. Each quad can take up to two riders, so one person can drive while the other enjoys the view, and you can swap at the stops. The guide sets a steady pace and waits for the whole group.
The Keyhole Rock Formation
One of the highlights of the ride is the keyhole rock formation on the northeast shore, where waves and wind have carved an opening through the limestone shaped rather like a keyhole. Through it you can see the blue sea framed by rock, and it makes one of the most original photos you can take on Boracay.
The guide gives you time to walk to the viewpoint and take pictures. The rocks can be sharp and slippery near the water, so stay on the marked path and keep a safe distance from the edge when the sea is rough. The colours are at their brightest in the clear light of the late morning and early afternoon.
The Beach Stop and Planning Your Ride
The tour also stops at a quiet beach on the northeast coast, a calm place to stretch your legs, feel the sand and enjoy the view after the trails. The whole ride takes about 80 minutes, so it combines easily with a morning swim or a sunset cruise on the same day.
The meeting point is on Bulabog Road, on the east side of the island, a short tricycle ride from most hotels. The best time to ride is the dry season from December to May, when the trails are firm and the skies clear. From June to November rain can make the tracks muddy and rides may be adjusted for safety. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dusty or splashed.
