Full Description
White Beach from the Air
Boracay's White Beach runs for about 4 km along the island's west coast and is divided into Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3, the old boat stations that still give the beach its landmarks. From ground level it is a busy, palm-fringed promenade; from a helicopter it becomes a single ribbon of fine white sand edged by water that shifts from pale aqua to deep blue as the reef drops away.
Every option of this Boracay helicopter tour includes White Beach, and it is the stretch most guests photograph first. Morning flights usually give the clearest, most saturated colours in the water, while mid-afternoon light flattens the glare a little. Sit on the side the crew suggests during the briefing, keep your phone strap on, and let the pilot's turns do the work: the banking angles are what give you that classic curved-shoreline shot.
Puka Shell Beach and the Northern Coves
At Boracay's northern tip, Puka Shell Beach takes its name from the small, naturally drilled shells that once covered its sand. It is wilder and less built-up than White Beach, with stronger waves in some months and a backdrop of forested hills. Nearby, little Diniwid Beach sits in a rocky cove just north of Station 1, and the north-east coast hides quiet bays such as Ilig-Iligan.
From the air you can see how small Boracay really is: the island is only about 7 km long and less than 1 km wide at its narrowest point, so a single loop shows both coasts at once. On the east side, Bulabog Beach becomes a playground for kitesurfers in the northeast-monsoon months, roughly November to April, and the colourful kites are a lovely detail from above.
Crocodile Island and Tambisaan Reef
Off Boracay's south-east coast, Crocodile Island earns its name from its long, low profile, which really does resemble a crocodile resting on the water when seen from the right angle. The island is a favourite snorkelling stop on boat tours, and the surrounding reef shows up from the helicopter as darker patches beneath clear water.
Nearby, the Tambisaan area has a sheltered reef and a small port used when the southwest monsoon makes the west side rough. The 15-minute Island Flight adds Tambisaan Reef to the beaches, while the default 20-minute Grand Island Flight continues to Crocodile Island. If you are deciding between options, the longer flight is the one that gives the full picture of Boracay's reefs, not just its beaches.
Carabao Island, Boracay's Quiet Neighbour
South of Boracay, across a short stretch of open water, lies Carabao Island, which belongs to the neighbouring province of Romblon. It is far less developed than Boracay, with fishing villages, long empty beaches and cliffs on its southern side, and it gives the Grand Island Flight a different mood once you leave Boracay's busy coastline behind.
Seeing Carabao from the air is the easiest way to appreciate it on a short holiday, because visiting by boat takes a good part of a day. Combined with the loop over Boracay, this part of the flight shows how the islands sit in the Sibuyan Sea off the northern tip of Panay. Ask the crew to point out the landmarks as you go: they know the coastline well and enjoy sharing it.
Planning Your Flight: Best Time and How to Get to Boracay
The best time to visit Boracay for a helicopter flight is the dry season, roughly December to May, when skies are clearest and the sea is at its most turquoise. Between June and November, typhoon season and the southwest monsoon can bring cloud and wind, and flights are rescheduled for safety if conditions are not right. Departures run from morning to mid-afternoon.
How to get to Boracay: the quickest route is a flight to Caticlan airport, then about 5 minutes to the Caticlan jetty and a 15-minute boat ride to Cagban port on Boracay; an environmental fee and terminal fee are paid locally on arrival. Kalibo International Airport is the alternative, about 1 h 30 to 2 h away by road plus the boat. We are happy to arrange private transfers so you arrive relaxed.
