Boracay Helmet Diving Experience with Photos and Videos

Overview

Helmet diving is the easiest way to see the underwater world of Boracay, even if you have never snorkelled or cannot swim well. A short boat ride from Station 1 on White Beach takes you to a platform offshore, where certified English-speaking dive instructors fit you with a clear-visored helmet fed with fresh air from the surface. You climb down a ladder and walk on the sandy seabed about 3 metres below, surrounded by fish and coral, for around 15 minutes. Your face and hair stay mostly dry, and you breathe normally. Photos and videos of your walk are sent to your phone. It is a shared activity with hourly starts, great for families, couples and first-timers.

Highlights

  • Walk on the seabed about 3 metres down without any diving experience
  • Breathe normally inside an air-fed helmet with a wide clear visor
  • See tropical fish and coral up close in Boracay's clear water
  • Certified English-speaking dive instructors beside you throughout
  • Photos and videos of your underwater walk sent to your phone
  • Hourly start times from 09:00 to 16:00
  • A guide escorts you from Station 1 to the activity area

Full Description

What Is Helmet Diving in Boracay?

Helmet diving, sometimes called sea walking, uses a heavy helmet with a large window that rests on your shoulders. Air is pumped continuously from the surface through a hose, so the water stays below your chin and you breathe just as you do on land. There is no mouthpiece, no tank on your back and no need to swim: you simply walk on the sandy bottom holding a guide rope.

Out of the water the helmet feels heavy, but once you go under it becomes light and comfortable. Many guests wonder whether helmet diving in Boracay is worth it when snorkelling is so easy. For non-swimmers, children who are confident in water and anyone nervous about masks and snorkels, it is the gentlest way to stand among the fish and look around calmly.

The Underwater Garden off White Beach

The dive site is a shallow sandy area off the west coast of Boracay, sheltered and clear on most days of the dry season. At about 3 metres deep, sunlight reaches the bottom easily, lighting up coral heads and the colourful reef fish that gather around them, such as damselfish, wrasses and sergeant majors. Visibility and marine life vary with the weather and the season.

Please enjoy the reef with your eyes only: do not touch or stand on coral, and do not feed or chase the fish. The instructors guide you along a set path so the reef stays healthy for those who come after you. The best time to visit Boracay for calm, clear water is December to May, when the northeast wind leaves the west coast sheltered.

How the Helmet Diving Experience Works

You meet our local guide at Station 1, who walks you to the boat and the activity area. After a short briefing on simple hand signals and how to equalise your ears, the instructors place the helmet on your shoulders at the top of the ladder and you climb down slowly, step by step, until you reach the seabed.

Your time underwater is about 15 minutes, and the whole activity takes about 20 minutes plus boat time. Instructors stay next to you, and you can signal at any moment if you want to go up. Photos and videos are taken during your walk and sent to your phone afterwards, so you can keep your hands free and simply enjoy the moment.

Planning Your Visit to Boracay

How to get to Boracay? Fly to Caticlan airport, about five minutes from Caticlan jetty, then take the short boat ride of around 15 minutes to Cagban port; or fly to Kalibo International Airport, about one and a half to two hours by road plus the boat. We arrange private transfers on both routes.

Helmet diving fits easily into a beach morning or afternoon, and many guests combine it with island hopping or a sunset cruise on the same day. Morning slots usually have the calmest water. Boat activities depend on sea conditions, especially from June to October when the southwest monsoon can make the west coast choppy, and sessions may be moved for safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private activity?

It is a shared activity: you join other guests on the boat, and the instructors take small groups down in turns.

Do I need to know how to swim?

No. You walk on the seabed holding a rope, breathing normally inside the helmet, with instructors beside you.

Can we choose the time?

Yes. Sessions start every hour from 09:00 to 16:00; pick the slot that suits you in the booking panel.

How many people go down at once?

Small groups go down in turns so each guest has instructor attention.

Is the price per person or per group?

The price is per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of the activity.

Is hotel pickup included?

No. You meet at Station 1 on White Beach, and a local guide escorts you to the activity area. We can arrange a transfer if needed.

What is included?

About 15 minutes of seabed walking with helmet diving equipment, certified English-speaking dive instructors, photos and videos sent to your phone and a guide escort to the activity area.

How long does it take?

About 20 minutes for the activity itself, plus the short boat rides.

Can I wear glasses or contact lenses?

Your face stays dry inside the helmet, so glasses or contact lenses can often be worn; check with the instructor at the briefing.

Is it suitable for children or people with reduced mobility?

Children who are comfortable in water often enjoy it; tell us their ages when booking. Climbing the ladder is needed, so it does not suit people with reduced mobility.

How do I book and confirm?

Choose your date and start time in the booking panel and send the request. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes.
