Full Description
The Paraw: Boracay's Traditional Sailboat
The paraw is the classic sailing boat of the central Philippines: a slim wooden hull with two long bamboo outriggers, joined by crossbeams and wide nets, and powered only by a single sail. Built for fishing and travel between islands long before engines arrived, it is light, stable and silent, gliding with the wind instead of the roar of a motor.
On a paraw sailing tour in Boracay you sit on the nets between the hull and the outriggers, so you are just above the water and can feel the spray on calm, breezy evenings. The captain trims the sail and steers with a long paddle at the back. It is a simple, beautiful way to experience the sea, and one of the most photographed sights on the island.
White Beach at Sunset
Boracay's White Beach runs for about 4 km along the west coast and faces directly west, which is why its sunsets are famous. Paraw boats leave from the beach in the late afternoon and sail just offshore, so you see the long line of white sand and palms on one side and the open sea and setting sun on the other.
As the sun drops, the sky over the Sibuyan Sea changes from gold to pink and deep orange, and the white sails of other paraws stand out against the light. Sunset views depend on the weather: haze or cloud can soften the colours, and a visible sunset cannot be guaranteed every evening. Even on cloudier days, the sail along the coast is relaxing and lovely.
Sailing Along Boracay's Coast
The sail lasts about 30 minutes, and the exact route depends on the wind that evening. Typically the captain takes you out from the beach and along the coast past Stations 1, 2 and 3, where you get a view of the island that people on the sand never see: the green hills behind the beach, the shoreline and the small rocky outcrops that mark the coast.
Because the boat is booked for your group only, it is ideal for a quiet moment together, a proposal or an anniversary. Choose the option that matches your group size, from 1 to 2 guests up to 8. The crew takes photos of your sail with the sunset behind you, so you can simply enjoy the moment without holding a phone.
Best Time for Paraw Sailing and How to Get to Boracay
The best time to visit Boracay for sunset sailing is the dry season, roughly December to May, when evenings are clear and the sea off White Beach is calm. Between June and November, the southwest monsoon and typhoon season can bring wind and waves to the west coast, and sailing is sometimes paused for safety. On the day, departures between 16:30 and 17:00 usually catch the best colours; earlier departures enjoy warm golden light.
How to get to Boracay: fly to Caticlan airport, take the 5-minute ride to the Caticlan jetty and a boat of about 15 minutes to Cagban port, paying the local environmental and terminal fees on arrival. Kalibo International Airport is about 1 h 30 to 2 h away by road and boat. We can arrange private transfers and pair this sail with island hopping or a land tour.

It is private: the paraw is booked for your group only, from 1 to 2 guests on the default option up to 8 guests on the larger options.
Can we change the route or the pace?
The route follows the wind, which the captain reads on the day, but you can ask for photo stops and the captain will do his best to keep you in the best light.
How many people fit on the paraw?
Options are available for groups of 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 guests. Choose the one that matches your group.
