Full Description
The Langbiang Mountains
Langbiang is the great mountain massif that rises north of Dalat, with its highest peak at about 2,167 m. It lies in Lac Duong district, around 12 km from the city centre, and is the traditional homeland of the K'Ho people, whose villages and farms still dot the lower slopes. The wider Langbiang area was recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2015 for its pine and evergreen forests, rare plants and birdlife.
On this quad ride you do not climb the summit itself; instead you follow farm and hill trails on the Dalat side that open up wide views of the Langbiang ridges, often wrapped in cloud in the morning and glowing in the afternoon sun. How to get to Langbiang from the city is usually by car or taxi; for this ride you only need to reach the base near Da Phu Hill, and we can arrange a private transfer.
Da Phu Hill and the Viewpoints
Da Phu Hill, on the north-western edge of Dalat, is one of the city's favourite viewpoints, known for its open grassy slopes, pine trees and early-morning cloud seas. The quad base sits directly across from it, so within minutes of leaving you are climbing hill trails with views back over the rooftops, greenhouses and lakes of the city.
Depending on the time you ride, the guide stops at the best lookouts for photos: crisp, clear panoramas in the morning, and softer light over the cloud forests later in the day, with sunset views from the hilltops on the last departures in the dry season. These viewpoints are hard to reach without a vehicle, which is part of what makes quad biking in Dalat such a good way to see the landscape.
Highland Farms, Buffalo and Wild Horses
The trails pass some of the farms that have made Dalat famous across Vietnam. You ride beside strawberry fields, coffee and tea plantations, rows of artichokes and colourful flower farms, many under the white greenhouses that cover the surrounding valleys. The cool climate at around 1,500 m lets farmers grow vegetables, fruit and flowers that would never survive in the lowland heat.
On the two-hour ride you go deeper into the Central Highlands countryside, away from the city, where water buffalo graze in the fields and wild horses can sometimes be seen on the open slopes, especially in the cooler, greener months. Your guide knows where they tend to gather and will stop at a safe distance for photos. Sightings are seasonal and never guaranteed, but the scenery alone makes the longer ride worthwhile.
Your Quad Ride: Training, Safety and Riding with the Guide
The quads are automatic, so there are no gears to change: you use the throttle and brakes. Before setting off, first-time riders take a training session of about ten minutes on a practice area, and staff approve each driver before heading up to the hills. Helmets and safety gear are provided, fuel is included, and the guide rides in front to set a steady, safe pace.
If you would rather not drive, you can ride as a passenger with the guide, which is also the way for guests under 18 to join, as drivers must be at least 18 years old. Is a Dalat ATV tour suitable for beginners? Yes: the trails are chosen for their views rather than for speed, and the guide adapts the route to the group's confidence.
One or Two Hours, and the Best Time to Ride
The default option is the two-hour adventure, which reaches further into the farms and countryside with more time at viewpoints. A one-hour ride is also available, covering the hill trails up to the Da Phu viewpoints and nearby farms, ideal if you are short of time or riding for the first time. Departures run on the hour from 9 AM to 3 PM.
The best time to visit Dalat for a quad ride is the dry season, roughly December to April, when trails are firm and skies clear. From May to November afternoon showers are common, trails can be muddy and you should bring rain gear; morning rides are often drier. Wear long trousers and closed shoes, and expect to get a little dusty or muddy.
