Full Description
Dalat: The Highland City of Pines and Adventure
Dalat sits at about 1,500 m on the Lam Vien Plateau in Vietnam's Central Highlands, surrounded by pine forests, flower farms and misty valleys. The cool climate, with daytime temperatures often around 18 to 25 °C, made it a hill station in French times and today makes it the country's favourite place for outdoor fun, from canyoning and coasters to lakeside paddling. Among the best things to do in Dalat with friends or children is this playful circuit of rides.
The three stops are spread around the hills outside the centre, and getting between them by local taxi takes time and planning. On this tour our vehicle handles all the driving, your guide sorts out the queues and entrances, and the route is timed so you spend the half day enjoying the rides rather than looking for transport. The morning departure leaves at 8 AM and the afternoon one at 12:30 PM.
Luge Kart: Downhill Racing in the Hills
The luge kart is a low, gravity-powered cart that you steer down a winding concrete track, a little like a video-game kart race in real life. There is no engine: you control your speed with a hand brake, so careful riders can cruise and confident ones can push for faster laps through the bends. A lift or tow brings you back up to the start after each run.
Your guide explains the simple safety rules before the first descent, and staff along the track keep riders well spaced. It is an excellent icebreaker for groups and families, with plenty of laughter at the finish line. The luge kart ticket is not included in the default option and is paid at the counter in cash, so please carry enough Vietnamese dong; card payments are not accepted there.
Mongo Land Dalat and the Rainbow Slide
Mongo Land is a themed park inspired by the Mongolian steppe, set on rolling grassy hills just outside Dalat. White ger-style tents, wooden fences, flower gardens and wide open views make it feel far from Vietnam, and many visitors come for the photos, sometimes dressing up in colourful steppe-style costumes available on site. The cool highland breeze adds to the feeling of space.
The star attraction for many guests is the rainbow slide, a long, brightly coloured slide down the hillside that is fun for adults as well as children aged 10 and over. Your guide gives you free time to explore at your own pace, take photos and enjoy the slide. Is Mongo Land worth visiting? As part of this half-day circuit it is a relaxed, colourful contrast between the two faster rides, and your entrance fee is included.
Datanla Alpine Coaster and Waterfall
The last ride is the Dalat alpine coaster at Datanla, one of the region's best-known attractions. Single or double carts run on a metal track that twists through tall pine forest down into the valley, and each cart has its own brake lever, so you set the speed. The run ends near Datanla Waterfall, where the stream cascades over rocks into the gorge, a lovely spot for photos before the coaster carries you back up.
Datanla Waterfall lies just off the Prenn Pass, about 5 to 7 km south of central Dalat, so it is easy to combine with the other stops. The alpine coaster ticket is paid on site in cash and is not included in the default option. If you prefer everything prepaid, the private option includes all three entrance fees as well as your own guide and vehicle.
Planning Your Half Day: Best Time and Weather
The best time to visit Dalat for outdoor rides is the dry season, roughly December to April, when mornings are clear and tracks are dry. From May to November, afternoon showers are common, so the 8 AM departure is often the safer choice. The coaster and luge kart may pause briefly during heavy rain for safety, and your guide will adjust the order of stops if needed.
Plan about four hours in total, including pickup. Wear closed shoes and comfortable clothes you can move in, and bring a light jacket for the cool highland air. Children must be at least 10 years old to join, and the rides are not recommended for pregnant travellers, guests over 70, or anyone with high blood pressure or altitude-related symptoms.
