The Cu Chi Tunnels north-west of Ho Chi Minh City
The Cu Chi Tunnels are a vast network of hand-dug passages roughly 70 kilometres north-west of the city, begun in the 1940s and greatly expanded during the Vietnam War. At their height they ran over several levels and linked hospitals, kitchens, storerooms and sleeping quarters beneath the soil.

Ben Dinh and Ben Duoc: which section to choose
Two tunnel sections are open to visitors. Ben Dinh, visited on the standard option, is closer to Ho Chi Minh City and the busier of the two, with well-organised paths, a demonstration area and plenty of reconstructed features. Ben Duoc lies further out, is quieter and feels closer to the original forest setting.
The difference between Ben Dinh and Ben Duoc is mainly crowds, distance and comfort, because the core story is the same. Depending on the option you choose, the standard group goes to Ben Dinh, while our small-group and limousine options go to Ben Duoc.
Inside the tunnels: traps, kitchens and the crawl
After a short film, you follow the guide through the forest to see hidden trapdoors, camouflaged air vents, booby traps and the smokeless kitchens built so that cooking would not give away positions. You also see bunkers and a model showing how the tunnels were laid out on different levels.
One stretch of tunnel has been widened for visitors, so you can crawl a short distance, although it is still narrow, warm and dark. It is fine to skip it if it does not appeal. Wear light clothes and shoes you do not mind getting dusty, and expect to spend around two hours on site.
