Full Description
Ba Na Hills and the Cable Car Ride
Ba Na Hills rises in the Truong Son range about 40 km west of central Da Nang, with its summit area at roughly 1,487 m. French residents first built a hill station here in 1919 to escape the coastal heat, and today the mountain is a large leisure resort with gardens, pagodas, a replica French village and an indoor amusement hall. The air is usually several degrees cooler than on the beach, and the weather can switch from sunshine to drifting mist within minutes.
How to get to Ba Na Hills is simple on this tour: our vehicle takes you from your hotel to the base station in about 45 minutes, and the cable car does the climb. Ba Na's longest line stretches almost 5.8 km over jungle, streams and waterfalls, and the ride takes around 20 minutes. Going up at 3 PM means shorter queues and a calmer cabin for photos of the forest below.
The Golden Bridge (Cau Vang) in Sunset Light
The Golden Bridge, Cau Vang in Vietnamese, opened in 2018 and quickly became the most photographed sight in central Vietnam. The gold-coloured walkway is about 150 m long and curves along the mountainside at around 1,400 m, carried by two enormous weathered stone hands that seem to rise out of the forest. On clear days you look down over the green valley towards the coast; on misty days the bridge appears to float in the clouds.
Most visitors reach the bridge in late morning, when it is packed shoulder to shoulder. On this sunset tour you arrive between about 3:30 and 4:30 PM, when the light is warmer and many day groups have already left. Your guide leaves time for photos from both ends and from the lower viewpoint, where the hands look their most dramatic, before you continue to the pagoda and gardens a short stroll away.
Linh Ung Pagoda, Flower Gardens and the Summit
A few minutes from the bridge, Linh Ung Pagoda is a peaceful Buddhist complex built in 2004 and watched over by a white Buddha statue about 27 m tall, gazing across the mountains. Terraced flower gardens and pine-shaded paths surround it, with viewpoints over the valley that glow in the late sun. Please dress modestly here, with shoulders and knees covered, and keep voices low near the shrine.
You then have about 45 minutes of free time at the top of Ba Na Hills, close to the highest point. Favourite corners include a traditional tea house, the slender tower of Linh Phong Zen Monastery and the Campanile bell tower, all set in cool, fresh air with long views. When the weather and the park schedule allow, an alpine coaster ride is included as well: a fun run down a forested track where you control your own speed.
The French Village at Night
The French Village recreates a small 19th-century European town, with cobbled squares, a Gothic-style church, a clock tower and pastel facades with wrought-iron balconies. During the day it is busy with shows and photo groups. As the light fades, the lanterns and facade lights come on, the square grows calm and the whole village takes on a romantic, almost theatrical glow, which is the best part of this evening programme.
Dinner is a buffet in the French Village with a wide spread of Vietnamese, Asian and international dishes, including some vegetarian choices. After dinner you have time to stroll the lit streets and take night photos before meeting your guide at the cable car station. The return ride runs at around 7 PM, according to the park's official schedule for the day, so being on time is essential. Drop-off in central Da Nang is around 8:30 to 8:45 PM.
Best Time to Visit Ba Na Hills: Is It Worth It?
Is Ba Na Hills worth visiting? For most travellers to Da Nang the answer is yes: the cable car alone is spectacular, and the bridge, gardens and mountain climate make a complete change from the beach. The best time to visit Ba Na Hills is roughly February to August, when skies are clearer. From September to January the rainy season brings showers and fog that can hide the views, although the tour runs in all weather.
Ba Na Hills opening hours are long, from morning until late evening, but the busiest window is about 9 AM to 1 PM. That is exactly why this tour starts in the afternoon: you arrive as crowds thin out, enjoy the sunset if the sky is clear and stay on for the evening lights. Sunset depends on the weather, so treat it as a bonus rather than a promise, and bring a light jacket because temperatures drop quickly after dark.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private tour?
The default sunset option is a shared tour: you join other travellers with an English-speaking guide. If you prefer your own guide and air-conditioned vehicle, choose the private option with tickets in the booking panel; its 2 PM departure also includes a buffet dinner and the late-afternoon visit.
Can we change the itinerary or the pace?
On the shared tour the timings are fixed around the cable car schedule, but there is free time at the summit and in the French Village to explore at your own pace. For a fully flexible day, the private option lets you set the rhythm with your own guide.
How many people are in the group?
Group size varies from day to day. If you want a smaller group, the morning small-group option is limited to 13 guests, and the private option is only for your party.
Is the price per person or per group?
Prices are per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option; child categories at Ba Na Hills are based on height.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. The default option includes pickup and drop-off at hotels in central Da Nang. There is a separate option with pickup in central Hoi An.
What is included?
Hotel transfers, an English-speaking guide, the return cable car ticket and Ba Na Hills entry, the Golden Bridge, Linh Ung Pagoda and gardens, an alpine coaster ride when operating, free time at the summit and in the French Village, a buffet dinner and bottled water.
How long is the tour?
About 7.5 hours from central Da Nang (1:30 PM to around 8:45 PM), or about 8.5 hours with the Hoi An pickup.
Is it suitable for children or people with reduced mobility?
Children are welcome and usually love the cable car and the coaster. The summit has slopes, stairs and crowds, so it is not recommended for people with mobility impairments, and the enclosed cabins are not ideal for anyone with claustrophobia or a fear of heights.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes, a light jacket, a camera, sunscreen and an umbrella or rain jacket in the wet season. Clothes that cover shoulders and knees are best for the pagoda.
Will we see the sunset, and what is the best season?
Clear sunsets are most likely between February and August. From September to January rain and fog are common, so the sunset may be hidden, but the evening lights in the French Village are lovely in any weather.
Is the dinner halal or vegetarian?
The buffet is not certified halal. It offers many dishes, including some vegetarian options. Da Nang has a few halal restaurants if you would like a halal meal on another day; ask us and we will advise.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your option and date in the booking panel and send your request. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and shares the pickup details.
