Full Description
Mount Fuji 5th Station
Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak at 3,776 metres and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013, is the reason most people book a Mt Fuji day tour from Tokyo. The 5th Station is the highest point you can reach by road, around 2,300 metres above sea level. From here you look across a lava landscape, walk around the small Shinto shrine and shops, and feel the cooler air of the mountain.
Many travellers ask how to get to Mount Fuji from Tokyo and whether a day trip is worth it. On a clear day the view is a highlight; on a cloudy day the mountain may hide, so we treat the visit as a chance to enjoy the atmosphere. If weather stops the coach at the 4th station, we swap in another viewpoint such as Oshino Hakkai. Bring warm clothing, as it is much colder up there than in Tokyo.
Buffet lunch with a view of Fuji
After the 5th Station, the coach stops at a local restaurant for a Japanese buffet lunch with views of the mountain when the sky is clear. The menu is the same for all guests and uses fresh local ingredients. Vegetarian meals can be requested when you book.
Vegan, halal, pure vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy-friendly meals cannot be provided, so if you have such needs, please contact us before booking. If you prefer to bring your own food, there are options in this tour without lunch, and the price on the booking panel shows the difference.
Hakone Ropeway and mountain views
Hakone is a mountain and hot spring region famous for its scenery, and the Hakone Ropeway is its best-known ride. The cable car climbs high above the wooded ridges with wide views over the Hakone area, and on clear days you can see Mount Fuji beyond them. Depending on the day, the ride starts from Mount Hakone or Mount Komagatake and leads on towards Lake Ashi. The ticket is included in this tour, so there is no queue to buy one.
People searching for a Hakone day trip or the best things to do in Hakone will find this ride at the top of the list. The exact ropeway section can vary with the day's conditions; if the ropeway is suspended because of wind or weather, your guide will arrange an alternative such as another scenic spot, and refunds are not given for such changes.
Lake Ashi cruise and the return by Shinkansen
Lake Ashi, a caldera lake formed by the eruption of Hakone volcano, is crossed on a sightseeing cruise ship, another ticket that is included. From the deck you see forested hills, the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine standing in the water and, on some days, Fuji's cone above the ridge.
After the cruise, the coach takes you to Odawara Station, where you board the Shinkansen bullet train for the 30-40 minute ride to Tokyo Station, arriving back around 6 PM. If you hold a rail pass, ask us before booking, because a return-by-bus alternative may suit you better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
How much does the Mt Fuji and Hakone day tour cost?
The price depends on the option you choose: with or without lunch, and the meeting point. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for each option, for adults and for children.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. You meet the group at the Love Statue in Shinjuku with the default option, or at Matsuya Ginza with another option. The exact point is in your booking confirmation.
How long is the tour?
It is a full day of about 10 hours, from the morning meeting to the arrival at Tokyo Station at about 6 PM.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Yes. Children aged 4 to 11 are booked at the child rate shown in the booking panel. The day is long, with about two hours each way on the coach, so bring snacks and something to keep little ones busy.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear comfortable shoes and layers, as it is cold at the 5th Station. Bring a light rain jacket, water and a camera. Drones are not permitted.
Is lunch included?
With the default option, yes: a Japanese buffet lunch is included. Options without lunch are also listed, and you should bring your own food for them.
Can I book for today or tomorrow?
Often yes, depending on availability. Choose your date in the booking panel to see whether the tour is open.
What is the difference between the options?
The options differ in whether lunch is included and in the meeting point: the Love Statue in Shinjuku or Matsuya Ginza. Everything else, such as the ropeway, the cruise and the bullet train ticket, is the same.
Will I see Mount Fuji?
Fuji is often visible in the cooler months and in the early morning, but clouds can hide it at any time. The visit to the 5th Station and the Hakone scenery are worthwhile even when the summit is hidden.
Is the bullet train ticket included?
Yes. A one-way bullet train ticket from Odawara Station to Tokyo Station is included in all options.
